Homeowner Prep, a non-profit organization, is offering free one-on-one financial coaching and accountability services to aspiring homeowners, with their goal to help renters create a custom plan that works best for them and their individual situation.
The organization is specialized in assisting adults, aged 21 to 40, with household incomes of $80K or more and working primarily in majority-rent communities. They excel in helping young couples, recently married or with families, who are looking to make the leap from renting to homeownership but don’t know how.
According to its spokesperson, Eric Hellon, “Renting is the greatest enemy to generational wealth.” Homeowner Prep is particularly committed to helping the African-American community, keeping in view the fact that the rate of homeownership in African-American communities is presently lower than when the Fair Housing Act was passed in 1968.
Homeownership Prep understands that all clients have different goals, timelines and financial needs when it comes to buying a home which is why they offer customized plans and advice, based on each individual’s situation. They also provide assistance when it comes to understanding credit reports, down payment assistance and loan qualifications, as well as helping clients find real estate agents and loan officers who are knowledgeable about their local market.
The organization has been helping clients since 2017, as an internal real estate program, to successfully make the transition to homeownership. Today, with its recently acquired 501c3 status, Homeownership Prep is excited to grow and hire more financial coaches and expand their network service to include even more families than before. The financial coaches from the organization are trained to help their clients with credit repair, budgeting, saving for a down payment, home loan qualifications and expertly guiding them through the entire home-buying process, from the beginning to end.
