February 26 14:20 2020
Now seeking community support via Kickstarter, “4:33,” a film student thesis, shows viewers around the world the power of listening to change the world. “Without music, life would be a mistake.” – Friederich Nietzsche

“4:33,” a short film about Raúl, a young Mexican musician, whose powerful composition opens the doors to fame. However, with the eyes of many upon him, music suddenly no longer sounds to him, Raúl finds himself in the strange position that  he can listen to everything except music. Looking for answers to this strange phenomenon, Raúl tries to find Alex, an old friend that may have the cure, but in the search, Raúl will find his life and fame are on the bridge of destruction.

A short film inspired by John Cage’s 1954 piece of the same name,  Raúl comes to embrace a world of silence. Cage’s piece, composed of four minutes and thirty-three seconds of total silence, taught the world that music was not only sound, but also silence. See how empty the world is without music and learn to “listen” again to one’s surroundings and our world with “4:33.”
